simple workbench

I wanted to post some pictures of my new bench for ages. Now I finally got around to it, so have a look here. There is also more to read if you follow the link.

Here is my Top, it is getting shape now.....
I am building the top in Hard Maple and the base in Soft Maple.
The Plane on top is a #4 just to give some scale, Lee Valley Tail Vise Screw, Lie Nielsen Bench Dogs. I am using the Workbench Book and the Fine Woodworking MAgazine #56 as a reference, particularly the Frank Klauzs Work Bench with my own adjustments....

Well 99% so. Just a coat of poly on the inside of the doors to seal them and were done.

For those of you who have followed the progress of this bench heres the final part. Now its complete and I can get on with other things.

Details are:

Dimensions - 1800 x 620 x 1000mm height. I'm tall so its built for my prefered working...

This bench is my first "real" bench. The top is made out of 12/4 white oak and walnut that has been in my shop for several years. I ended up using more walnut then I had originally planned because several of the oak timbers had some internal checking after they were milled that i did not want in the bench.

I am building a new bench, and have some pics online at www.slithytove.org/workbench/

For the top, I am using 2 69"x26" VÄRDE countertops from Ikea, laminated together. The countertops are birch butcherblock, 1 1/8" thick, and cost $89 each. I used Titebond II as the glue, I screwed them together down the center line, and just clamped the edges between the 4x4s...

Posting Images on this forum & Workbench 2.0

I found out how to solve the problem with posting images to this forum. First, to post the image you need to actually do this by putting in the URL of the images location. If you click on the button "image" on the left of the posting screen there's a place to do that. Once that comes up you have a request for the actual URL of the image itself. In other words it appears the image needs to be on a website itself, and rather then the user uploading the image to the forum, the forum...
