Like many, my bench design is forever-evolving. I picked up a large tail vise recently with the intention of including it into my next bench. After search for instructions on how to include it, I can honestly say I'm a bit nervous about taking on the challenge.

Almost every article I've read to date regarding tail vises seems to go out of it's way to mention how difficult it is to incorporate a tail vise.

So I have to ask those that have them... are they really worth the...

Trying to work out the design of the bench top and I'm not sure what type of vise I will need/use. I think my choices are to put on an end vise, or a tail vise or a tail vise with shoulder.

I see that in your design (and I think this is the traditional European way) you have used a tail vise. Can you give me your thoughts on putting this in versus one with a shoulder, and one that spans the width of the benchtop. I would probably use the Lee Valley twin-screw if I go with the last...

I'm about ready to install my front apron which will hold a traditional front vise. I'm looking for front and tail vise hardware that is not black, but rather stainless or brushed chrome, nickel etc. The only thing close that I've found is the tail vise hardware from Scott Landis's contract machine shop in Canada. I think the screw & handle for those are from a Record.

Any ideas are welcome.

BTW, where have all the postings gone?
